309 MYSTERY QUILT - KIMBERLY EINMO

Come spend the day with Kimberly for a fabulous and fun piecing journey by making her stunning mystery quilt, On Moonlight Bay! This dynamic quilt is a beautiful combination of traditional style blocks set together with a clever twist. While the blocks themselves are not difficult to piece, you'll love the secondary pattern which emerges when they are stitched together! Kimberly will teach you her favorite fast and efficient techniques for perfect, precision piecing. Choose your own fabrics by carefully selecting the color values listed on the supply list. Still not sure? Take a photo of your fabrics and email it to Kimberly for some expert advice! Kimberly has designed the entire process to be stress-free. Whether you are a mystery quilt class veteran or if you have never made a mystery quilt before, you'll spend a fabulous day having fun creating a lovely quilt top as a souvenir from your time spent at Quilt Odyssey. 313 SURPRISE YOURSELF! - CHARLOTTE ANGOTTI

For years, Charlotte has used her own methods for designing and cutting her kits for Let Me Surprise You! Now there is a book. She has written a book, along with her good friend, Debbie Caffrey. In this class, by the same name as the book, you will get her half of the train ride. Both authors do mystery classes, designing quilts, choosing fabrics and making the quilts. Each have a similar yet very different approach to getting to the final destination. The book is written as if you are on a train. Following the Blue line for Charlotte and the Green line for Debbie.

This workshop will use the techniques for simple design, cutting and sewing techniques from the Blue line. Using easy untis and an artistic eye, you will be creating your own designs as well as not needing the crazy directions often found in patterns and books. With this freedom, you can easily see how many quilts are broken down and put back together again Certain patterns are easier than others and using basic units, you will begin to create instead of just copy. This class is full of information, real quilts ana real solutions to everyday problems in quiltmaking. The book is not required for class, but it sure is a great source!

314 AMERICANA ALBUM & FOLK ART - BETTY NEFF

This class is designed for people interested in applique, signature and documentation quilts. Betty has designed a class that may become a staple at QO! We will begin by looking at early block based applique quilts. In class each student will design an 18" applique block based on historical Americana Album and Folk Art quilts. Designs will be shared to create a "20 block pattern" for each participant. Fabric choices are totally your personal decision. This type of design looks primitive in solids. Or choose Modern fabric groupings or bold prints (Kim McLean style). This could be the perfect project for that Vintage stash you've been dying to use!

You say you can't draw - Betty has prepared a personal design folder with shapes to use or adapt, subject options, guidelines and written directions to inspire you again and again. She will walk you through the process quickly! From the creation of your designs, one quilt will be stitched by Betty as a special exhibit for Quilt Odyssey 2017. Your signature will be required on your block design, so we can contact you after class.

The second part of the class will focus on learning or improving applique skills. Back-basting preparation will be demonstrated. Other basic set up techniques will be offered as well. Needle turn stitching should give you a quiet productive afternoon! "Broderie Perse" will be demonstrated, so think of this when selecting fabrics.

SUPPLIES: Inexpensive thread for basting; size 9 and 11 Milliners needles or your preferred applique needle; 60 wt thread for applique, neutral color (or to match your fabrics - will be discussed in detail, can purchase later); fabric shears - medium size and small; 6X12 and/or 4x8 ruler; 18" or larger square ruler (any shaped rulers you might want to bring are optional); fine Sharpie, pencils and good knead eraser; 21" square background fabric (Betty uses Kona "snow"); small collection of fabric scraps or 4-5 fat qtrs in vintage reds and greens, large print for possible "Broderie Perse," medium and small prints, solids, etc.

Class fee of $20 include large paper for 20 patterns plus extra; complete design folder including templates and color prints and any necessary postage.

LL316 MAKING SOMETHING NEW THAT LOOKS 'OLDE' - JO MORTON

Enjoy a "spot of tea" and scones with clotted cream while listening to Jo Morton and becoming inspired by her lecture. Jo's love of 19th Century quilts has led to a study in making new quilts that look "olde" (doll/crib quilt size). This old look is achieved by a careful selection of fabrics (stripes, plaids, paisleys, geometrics, florals and some charming uglies). Jo will be bringing lots of examples in an assortment of traditional patterns to show and share. She will also discuss her source of inspiration for the quilts. You will get inspired to make small quilts and achieve a great sense of accomplishment. Approximately one hour.
