(SPOOL DOWN FOR DETAILS OF OUR UPCOMING

2008 RETREAT WITH BETTY NEFF)

Quilt Odyssey 2007

 QUILT RETREAT

with Mimi Dietrich & Norma Campbell

September 20-23, 2007

The Dynamic Duo promised and delivered a side-slappin', heel-kickin' good time! Mimi and Norma picked a wonderful project from Mimi's book, Bed & Breakfast Quilts. This was a retreat filled with comaraderie!  Twenty quilters learned a simple block and how to make it into more complex designs. Some of us managed to add the applique border by Sunday; one industrious "new" quilter finished her king-sized quilt top with the help of her Mom!

Below are some photos from our retreat with Mimi and Norma. (Is that a halo around Norma's head or is her hair on fire?!)

Most of us came away feeling we had learned things we could take with us and apply to other projects. We had fun while learning from the Dynamic Duo. Mimi and Norma seemed to give us wings to fly with our project!  Our group got together to assemble two commemorative quilts for both Mimi and Norma.

From left to right: top row: Susan Grancey, Shannon Bartlett, Norma Campbell, Mimi Dietrich, Donna Blair, Kathy Sears; middle row: Maria Goodwin, Karen Porr, Lisa Smith, Flora Poulos, Florence Edwards, Janet Jones, Cathy Eisenhuth, Kathy Vanacoro, Susan Falcone, Sandy Claypool, Patti Hackenberg, Sara Breton; seated: Peggy Mohr, Sarajane Goodwin, Mary Ginter and Angela Solenberger.

Sara Breton sent us this finished version of the retreat project - a full sized quilt made for her in-laws!  What a wonderful gift!

This retreat was so much fun that Mimi and Norma will be offering a condensed version at Quilt Odyssey 2008!

Quilt Odyssey 2008 & 2009

 QUILT RETREATS

dates

In 2008, our retreat dates are Oct 9-12. Our instructor will be Betty Neff from Canton, PA. She will be hosting a retreat centering on an old pattern she refers to as "Remember Thee," using reproduction fabrics to get an old-fashioned look. This project can also be used as a Signature Quilt for a special occasion. Please note: Your color combinations do not have to be identical to this - that's what makes quilting so much fun - seeing how individual each quilter's project is! Acceptance is limited to no more than 22 people.  We are currently looking into going to a Gettysburg quilt shop specializing in repro fabrics. For those who don't want to venture that far away, Donna Poster's studio will be open to any who would like to see how a pattern-maker thinks and works.

We aim to please! When you couple our wonderful instructors with delicious food, comfortable and pleasant surroundings with ample space, a trip to a local quilt shop, and a relaxed atmosphere, you have an unbeatable combination for a great and memorably good time!

If you would like an application, see instructions below.

Our dates have been established for 2009 also. They are Sept. 24-27.

Itinerary

Thursday: Check in after 3pm. Relax and get settled until supper where we will eat together. After supper, we'll meet in the Addison Room for ice breakers and introductions and get situated there.

Friday: Breakfast buffet style, then our first session with the host teacher(s) and her project. We'll work until lunch. After lunch, you'll spend more time on the project.  After an all-you-can-eat supper, we'll gather again in the Addison Room for show 'n' tell, games, door prizes and fun with our host(s). Then, those who wish to sew on, may do just that!

Saturday: After yet another wonderful buffet breakfast, we'll head off for a quilt shop in the area via QO vans where you will have a few hours to shop before heading back to Allenberry for lunch. After lunch, we'll join together in the Addison Room and continue our quilting project. Saturday evening will be our final Show 'n' Tell, with more door prizes and picture taking and a chance to have our guest teacher(s) sign books if you have them with you. You will be able to sew into the night if you wish to finish the work you want to do before the weekend is over.

Sunday: After breakfast, we will say our goodbyes. We will ask you to fill out an evaluation and a sign-up list for those wishing to stay in touch. The Addison Room will be open for last minute details and a group picture. Check out is before noon.

*You may bring other projects to work on if you wish. There will be no "push" to get things done. The emphasis will be on enjoying the time and  instruction by a much-in-demand instructor.

Space is limited to approximately 22 maximum.

Single: $660; or double: $550. Price is all inclusive: 3 nights' lodging, meals (3 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 3 supper buffets), trip to quilt shop, project pattern or book - and fun! (with the exception of the fabrics and supplies you bring to make the project - and anything you may purchase at the quilt shop we will visit!).
