Instructor: Deborah Tirico
Tesoritos means “tiny treasure” in Spanish, as the treasures of the needle worker are her tools and petites. This miniature sewing box is aptly named as it was inspired by the colorful Mexican art I saw while visiting San Antonio, Texas. The bright colors and spirals arranged in fantasy flower combinations made this project fun to stitch and useful as a gift to a stitching friend or a personal stitching accessory. Procedures in felted wool appliqué including tack stitch methods, my signature needle slanting techniques, surface embroidery tips including embroidery guides and easy and accurate buttonhole stitching will be presented. Creating twisted cord with mini tassel, mastering the colonial knot, cutting small pieces and accuracy in surface embroidery will also be covered. Tools that make working in felted wool easy and fun will be made available and the construction of the final box will be fully discussed to prepare all participants to be able to “finish!” The four inch covered and lined box includes a pin cushion inside a tart tin, a mini needle roll and a scissors sheath and fob. Kit fee of $70 payable to instructor – please see supply list for detailed description of what goes into each kit. All skill levels.
