Instructor: Betty Neff
A brief definiation of Broderie Perse is “fussy cutting” simple designs which, when arranged on a new background, appear complicated! Needle-turn appliqué or buttonhole stitch is the technique used to join the two. Simple and classic! Late 18th and mid 19th Century was its glory days! Currently we are experiencing a resurgence internationally, due to designers like Di Ford, Petra Prin and others. Students will study fabrics, design styles, mechanics, etc. Betty will provide a project kit, with ideas for completing it. Students are encouraged (optional) to bring Broderie Perse fabric options (large prints with a “background match” backer) to plan with and discuss in class.
