Instructor: Deborah Tirico
Pin cushions have been a staple of sewing baskets for hundreds of years. From millinery to dressmaking to quilting, every stitcher has need of a hearty pin cushion. Felted wool makes a perfect pin cushion as the needles slide into felted wool yardage like butter making it easy to remove and return pins quickly. These two pin cushions feature fancy embroidery bands that decorate the sides and two different floral designs for the top. Students will have an opportunity to choose the colorway and design that appeals to them and learn how to add embroidery bands with ease using embroidery guides. Students will learn to make freezer paper patterns and work with placement guide templates and learn basting techniques for increased accuracy. Specific surface embroidery stitches (such as the colonial knot) and needle slanting techniques for adding dimension will be presented. Tools that make working in felted wool easy and fun will be introduced. The construction of the final pin cushion will be fully discussed. Kit fee: $65 payable to instructor. All skill levels.
